Rhinoplasty
Plastic surgery of the nose in the Tyrol and Vienna
Whether it is the nose that is too large or the chin that is too small is something we can quickly decide with the help of modern computer technology.
A patient may consider her nose too large. But on closer inspection we find that in fact it is the chin that is too small. The size and shape of the chin and nose, and the angle between the two are not harmonious. Today, with the patient's co-operation and the help of modern computer technology, we are able to visualize the unaesthetic element in the facial contours.
Simulating a new nose in the computer
A digital camera is used to transfer a photograph of the patient to the computer. The desired results and the potential of the planned rhinoplasty can then be discussed with the operator and simulated on the screen. As a basic rule we can say that the tip of the nose is shaped by the alar cartilage in terms of contours and width. The amount of this lower lateral cartilage determines whether the tip or alar of the nose is coarse or delicate. In almost all nasal enhancement procedures, the lateral cartilage is accordingly reduced.
Harmonious geometry
The anticipatory pleasure of having a new nose cannot be marred by the need to wear a nasal splint after the operation. That usually lasts ten days and is followed by a few days with a nasal plaster. By then the nasal skeleton will have regained its stability. After three weeks the desired new-look nose is a visible permanent feature, although minor details do continue to change in the course of the first year.
