Endoscopic midface lift
A revolution through keyhole surgery
For the facial plastic surgeon, the midface region - and especially the area of the nose and cheeks - was traditionally a problem. The use of keyhole surgery, however, has now revolutionized the situation. The principle is well known in connection with the removal of gall stones and gynecological interventions: the use of tiny endoscopes avoids the need for large incisions. That means faster healing with less pain. In the field of facial plastic surgery, the method has been employed for some time now to avoid visible scarring. The emphasis is thus on the operator's skill in tightening the skin of the neck and lifting the brows.
The nose and cheeks are also particularly important. For the plastic surgeon the classical face lift was always a challenging procedure. It was also one in which the midface benefited least from the tightening and lifting of the tissues. What is new is the endoscopic approach on the hairline of the temples, which means the small scars are not visible. The micro-surgical instruments can be introduced directly to the problem area. Sagging tissue, which has lost its tension in the course of the years or has submitted to the pull of gravity, is raised and repositioned. That makes it possible to rejuvenate this key area of the face, which is subjected most to the critical gaze of our fellow human beings. Unnatural tautness, which was once a clear sign of a lifted face, is now no longer a problem.
After surgery, patients feel hardly any pain. The perfect results available with this technique become visible to all after 2 - 3 weeks. By then the swelling has subsided. A feeling of numbness in the lip and tightness in the cheeks will last slightly longer but will also disappear after a few more weeks. The use of endoscopic techniques in plastic surgery has led to greatly improved results and has also made procedures easily possible that could not be performed well in the past. For the patient, the method is less stressful and produces more natural results.
