Liposuction
Plastic surgery in the Tyrol and Vienna: liposuction

Many people see liposuction as a convenient way of slimming. In fact it is a targeted form of treatment for problem areas of the body that only makes sense if the patient is willing to contribute in terms of diet and exercise.
The best results are achieved with patients with isolated deposits of fatty tissue in the typical problem areas of the body. In women, that normally means the hips, thighs and insides of the knees, and in men the famous spare tire around the waist.
Small incisions (approx. 3 mm) are made to enable a cannula to be inserted into the subcutaneous fatty tissue so that the excess fat can be suctioned off. The technique involves the creation of numerous little tunnels lying close together in order to form a complete cavity.
Great progress has been made in the field of liposuction in the last few years. With the tumescent technique (involving the injection of fluid into the fatty tissue) and pretreatment with ultrasound, 2-3 mm cannulas can be used to reduce the volume of fat carefully and effectively and to tighten the skin at the same time. The thinness of the cannulas also largely avoids any unwanted dimpling effects.
Various liposuction techniques are in use today; every physician has to use what he considers the best method. In all cases, however, it is the operator’s experience that counts.
